Making the Middleton Mural

Working with a team to create a wonderful piece of history was so exciting!

Sometimes, I try to step back and appreciate what’s around me. This fall, I worked with Art’s Cool, a local business, on a mural of our town. The original picture came from the Middleton Stream Team. After the grand opening yesterday, our mural is now hanging in Sol Bean Cafe, a local organic food shop.

Through community projects like this, the idea of keeping a clean, beautiful community is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. The historic landmarks of our town, as well as rivers, streams, and fields are all highlighted in the mural. I remember as a child driving by the corn field every morning on the way to school and playing a guessing game of how many cows there are in the meadow on the way home with my mom. I want people like me to be able to cherish their memories and be reminded of them far into the future.

As our town changes, it will be interesting to look back on this piece of history we created. For me, sustainability means keeping roots in the past while planning for our future.

All of the individual pieces and areas of our town joined together as part of the finished mural.
