We try to use renewable energy as much as we can to reduce our carbon footprint. Ten years ago, my father installed three solar panels to heat our hot water. We only use oil to heat our hot water if the weather is cloudy.
Seven years ago, we got solar electric panels. Since then, our solar panels have generated over 40,000 kWh of electricity. Not only do they power our indoor electric needs, these panels also provide energy for our cars. My dad’s Nissan Leaf is a full-electric vehicle. He charges it overnight. My mom’s Prius Plug-in can go 12 miles on a charge and takes under 2 hours to charge fully. Its hybrid engine also runs on gas.
So, if you’re interested in electric cars, check out National Drive Electric week or look for another event in your area.
